Apple rejected my app due to metadata issues, and I need guidance on fixing them. What are the common reasons for metadata rejection, and how can I update my app’s details to meet Apple’s guidelines?
Hello @Fenil_Kasundra
Welcome to our community and thank you for trying out Backendless.
Common Reasons for App Rejection Due to Metadata Issues
Apple carefully reviews app metadata — this includes all the information you submit in App Store Connect, such as the app name, description, keywords, screenshots, etc. Here are the typical reasons for rejection:
- Misleading or Inaccurate Description
- If the description doesn’t reflect the app’s actual functionality.
- Claims like “the best app” without justification can be problematic.
- Screenshots Do Not Reflect Actual Interface
- Apple requires that screenshots accurately show the real user interface.
- Highly edited or fake visuals are not allowed.
- Inappropriate or Misleading Keywords
- For example, using names of competitors or brands you don’t own (e.g., “Instagram”, “TikTok”).
- Placeholders or Incomplete Content
- Placeholder text like “lorem ipsum” or phrases like “coming soon” in the description, screenshots, or app.
- Inappropriate or Prohibited Content
- Offensive language, controversial content, or violations of Apple’s content policies.
How to Fix Metadata and Avoid Rejection
- Check the Message from Apple
- In App Store Connect, open the Resolution Center — you’ll find the rejection reason and sometimes screenshots from the reviewer.
- Update Description and Keywords
- Avoid exaggeration and ensure all described features are available in the app.
- Use only relevant and accurate keywords.
- Update Screenshots
- Upload unedited images that reflect the real UI and functionality.
- Make sure to provide screenshots for all supported devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.).
- Review Localizations
- If you’re submitting in multiple languages, ensure translations are accurate and complete.
- Resubmit the App
- After making the necessary changes, click “Submit for Review” in App Store Connect.
Tip: Before resubmitting, review Apple’s official metadata guidelines — it will help you avoid future issues.
