Containers vs Blocks

I am trying to understand what the difference is between the various components in UI Builder. Unfortunately, the documentation is rather thin in this area.

What is the difference between Containers and Blocks as UI Components, and when should I use one or the other? Would be nice to see the docs here fleshed out a little, or have some references to other material explaining what is what…
