Thanks for your feedback.
I might try that and see if something ends up working.

I find working with the ImageProcessor tools extremely painful at this stage. Building a simple upload > resize > rotate image scenario is such a hassle. I find I am wasting time on something which is not even my core business but just plain blocking me.

Thanks @Jorg_Beyer for your help. Your solution does tend to stabilize things a bit.

But I’m still puzzled by the (much too important) fraction of calls which result in “The specified resource was not found”, despite having already received the reply from the ImageProcessor !
