Generated columns most obvious case

I read topics about generated columns and I’m so surprised that the most obvious case of calculating age from dateOfBirth is not possible in this column because you cannot use today() or now()).
Calculating age is the first thing I can imagine why we may need a generated column and yet it’s not capable of doing that and it’s recommended to calculate it by code or codeless with a query from table.
