PWA: please add more text fields

In the PWA settings of UI Builder, I can set the “name” field of the manifest. However, I’ve observed that some browsers are using the “short_name” field of the manifest as the icon title on mobile devices. Currently, the “short_name” field is automatically set by you to “Backendless App”.

Please add an option to PWA settings to maintain the “short_name” field in addition to the “name” field.

While you are working on this, please also add the option to maintain the “description” field of the manifest. :grinning:

Thanks!

Hello @Klaas_Klever,

Thanks for the suggestion! That’s a great point - I agree that having control over the short_name and description fields would make PWA customization more flexible and complete.

I’ve passed this along to the team, and a Jira ticket has been created for this enhancement. We’ll keep you posted on any updates!

Stanislaw

Hi @stanislaw.grin ,
Any progress on this enhancement? It’s annoying to edit the app manifest manually after build.

Thanks!

Hello Klaas Klever,

Thanks for checking in — and for the original suggestion. We’ve moved this enhancement to our backlog. We don’t have an exact ETA yet, but it’s on our roadmap and we’ll post an update here as soon as it’s scheduled.

Regards,
Alexander

Hi Alexander, Stanislaw,

I’ve recently ran into this — the app installed on the phone is called “Backendless App” despite my naming customization.
Could we change it so the “Application name” in the form also changes the “short name”, if that’s the root of the issue? That way the custom name would be displayed.

This is quite unfortunate to not be able to customize. Thank you for your comprehension.
